hi , at the minute i am feeding my two degus burgess supa guniea pig excel (the most appropriate one that i am able to get that does not include that mollasses etc) anyway i work in a pet shop so i thought that i should be able to get my hands on some actual degu food, the only degu one available for the shop to get in is vitakraft degu food, i cant find an alternative anywhere else. now i have heard that some degu food is not actually good for them but i am trusting a big company like vitakraft to get a degus diet right? or should i just stick to the supa guniea pig excel? has anyone tried their degus on it? what do you guys think thanx

Hello there! I've heard that the Vitakraft degu food isn't that good, Chloe of degutopia said it wasn't really nutritionally brilliant for degus, I can't remember why. I feed Burgess Guinea Excel pellets at the moment as well, but having read some fresh information recently I've decided to get some JR degu food from www.zooplus.co.uk as this is supposed to be excellent quality. It's German food, and degus seem to be much more well known in Germany, they seem to be much more common and popular pets there. I'll mix it with the pellets I have, to start with at least, and see how I go.

gingerfish - have you tried Briskys? They make pellets specially for degus and they're supposed to be really good. I know they're not cheap but they last ages apparently.

vitakraft doesn't have a very good reputation even among other pet communities, so i would steer clear of anything they label as a "degu" feed. a lot of people on this forum use burgess, and many would also recommend brisky's (which can be shipped to your home). in my experience, my degus seem equally content with either brisky's, or small world rabbit pellets (which are also molasses-free).
