Hello Everyone! I don't have degus yet but I am adopting one from the SPCA. I was originally getting 2 but the one at the SPCA who I fell in love with is very agressive towards other degus and needs to be housed alone. Any ways, my questions; 1) What types of veggies can degus eat and how often? 2) Do you reccomend for pellets; guinea pig pellets, chinchilla pellets or a mixture of both? 3) Lab blocks- These are good right? I have no clue what these are but I've read alot about them ;D 4) If lab blocks are good, how often should i feed them? 5) Do degs need any special vitamins added to their diet? I think thats all the questions, but thats very much for your help!

Hey! Congrats on getting your degu soon!! As for feeding, I don't tend to give my degus veggies, only dried carrot as a very occasional treat. I feed mine on Burgess G.pig pellets only (from pets at home) with lots of timothy hay available at all times, and alfafa cubes & sunflower seeds (occasionaly) as treats. I give mine a vitamin supplement in their water just to ensure they get what they need. Not sure what Lab blacks are , so can't help you on that one! Hope all goes well when you get your new arrival! Naomi ;D

Lab blocks are formulated specifically for different animals, so the rat/mouse blocks would be inappropriate for a degu. I really doubt that there's a degu-formulated one, because they're not very common lab animals. Perhaps guinea-pig diet blocks might be okay, but you'd need to check the data sheet for the specific product.
