I'm really surprised your cage smells so. I deeply bed my cage with the white Carefree and only change it every other week. I do wipe up the shelving daily and replace their cardboard tubes and nest boxes when I change the cage. The cardboard tubes etc will hold urine which then seems to concentrate and start to smell. I have two female Degus. I didn't search your posts - do you have male or females? Males do have a little stronger scented urine. How big is your cage?
Have you had other small pets before? I had a rat at one time and believe me the Degus have nearly no odor in comparision. Maybe you have a particularly sensitive sense of smell. In that case it will be tough to overcome.
Will have to give it some more thought.

Well done! Sounds like you're doing everything in your power to eliminate the odor. It must be the male vs female thing.
