Hi Everyone, Parrot Perches for Degus we recently brought two young female Degus called Milly and Tilly. They have seemed to settle in well but we want to get something to help keep their nails down. I saw somewhere that you can get parrot perches to help but could this be harmful for them if they eat them. Everything we have put in their cage they have tried to eat so far.

The only thing I can suggest is that you make sure everything that you put in the cage is either glass or wood. When you see something cute in the pet store that you just have to have for them, remember........they won't play with it....they will eat it. I think the only thing that isn't glass or wood in my cage is the hammock, the wheel and the ceramic perch. I hope that helps

That helps thank you. We tried the Hammock as well but as soon as we put it the cage they started eating it and using it to wee in so we have taken it out.

My goos have also chewed their hammock. That's just what they do. And yes they pee in it and mine quite often gets filled up with little droppings but that's why they make them machine washable. I realize they are kinda pricey but I think it would take them a long time to chew through the whole thing and I also think that eventually they would get bored with chewing it and realize that it is much better for sleeping in. I had the hammock in the cage for just over a month before any one of goos actually started sleeping in it. (Some of you will remember how stressed I was about it) All is well now and yes , they have chewed a bit of the edge but not even close to where I would need to get a new one. Also try some cardboard boxes or some scrap, untreated wood. There is a thread in here somewhere about which woods are good for goos cages. I went with apple tree wood cause there was an orchard around here that had cut some branches down and they love it!! ;D I hope that helps some. Maybe gives you some ideas. Be creative. Make their home fun and maybe they will find the right things to chew on.

Since you are in the UK, visit a Pets At Home store, or even a garden centre that caters for pets. You can find many wooden perches with nut and bolt fastening making them ideal for the degu cage. to make it easier, here is a link at what I am suggesting. They are great in the cage, and the degus love to chew them, especially if placed just where it will annoy them!!! www.petsathome.com/invt/3947
