Could two degus live well in a 45 gallon tank? Or should it be a 10 gallon with a tank topper? I have never had degus so Im still learning about them.

a tank that size should provide adequate space, but the biggest problem with tanks is ventilation. most people use a 10/20-gallon tank with a topper because it's less messy, but still well-ventilated.

a ten gallon tank is pretty small even with a topper, its a hamster sized cage, is that really big enough for a pair of degus?

I wouldn't think so? I thought the 10 gallon was too small for a pair of gerbils even lol, so I got a 15 gallon, which is attatched to the 10 gallon, soon to be attatched to a 2nd 10 gallon....10 gallons are pretty small, I would think it depends on how big the topper is though.

degus need lots of vertical space, so if the topper is several levels, a 10-gallon would serve as a sufficient bottom.
