Plastic toys in cages are they are good idea?.
I know they are more than likely going to be chewed to death within a matter of weeks. It is just i have found a pet store in my area that sells rather cheap (and rather bright and certainly attractive to the human eye) bird toys which i am convienced would make excellent little play things for my future degus.
I was just wondering if they would be safe and not pose any 'health' fears to them?. I mean if they are safe for birds surely they would be ok for small animals?.

I would have thought the only problem would be in the degus deciding to "kill" the toys, so no worries if you are happy with that!!

The plastic toys made for Parrots while not indestructable, are pretty tough. I think those types of toys won't "splinter" so I'm with Meg, all it will hurt is your pocket book!!

thanks everyone...i just needed some other peoples thoughts on the idea.
Another quick question are willow sticks ok for degus?. I work in a garden centre and we've got bunches of them that are about 6 foot long for only 99p!. Obviously i will be cutting them up to fit in the cage, but i thought they looked ideal degu chewing/gwaning materials?!

I give mine willow balls to destroy so I would have thought willow sticks would be fine!
