Hi all, Just picked up Eric & Alfie's new cage!!! very exciting!!! ;D Just a few queries though. It is a terenziani cage - the biggest one (like sunshinemegs i think but one storey more). I have removed the grid bottom to it but it has 3 more grid levels, just wondering if i need to remove these and put wooden shelves in or leave them but put lots of leap n ledges and things in? Any suggestions would be great, can't wait to decorate it and get the boys in! Wil post some pic when they've moved in. Naomi ;D

I rearranged the shelves quite a lot when I added the tank. At the moment I have:
- 1 mostly bare wire on the wheel level, which is largely occupied by the wheel but which has a square of matting for them to sit on. - 1 covered with linoleum, which is the shelf where their hay rack is. - 1 bare wire, which provides access to the tank.
I left one of the bottom ones bare because I wanted to have a decent amount of ventilation for the tank. My theory is that there's plenty of non-wire floorspace and shelves in the cage, so they don't have to sit on the wire if they find it uncomfortable.

beast is correct, wire flooring isn't a huge problem as long as there's sufficient non-wire area for them to rest their feet on. i put grassy mats down on my wire floors, as i figure if i'm going to cover it with something they'll chew, it will be something SAFE for them to chew, and they wear through it pretty quickly and don't seem to mind standing on the wire until i replace them.

diet, I tried the grass mats but alas the girls won't let them stay on the wire level! They throw them down the ramps, chew on them, bury them ....anything but leave them on the wire flooring. I have cutting mats the ones that artist/draftspersons use covering the wire level. On one side I have their ever changing cardboard house and on the other side their large running wheel. They both chew on the corners of the mats but I do find the leaving in the bedding so I'm pretty sure they aren't injesting the mat material. I wish they would leave the grass mats in place. Then for sure I wouldn't have to worry.
