Hi there! Please can everyone tell me what type of chinchilla dust/sand do they use for their degus? I know that in the US there are certain specific types of dust, but I can only find 'Charlie chinchlla' dust, which may of course be fine, I just wondered. So what do UK people use please?! Any help appreciated! Thanks! (I *may* be getting degus soon! Watch this space! )

Hi,
Do you have a 'pets at home' near you? I use the chinchilla dust that they sell, it's in a white bag. my degu's seem to like it and roll around in it quite happily! ;D

Charlie Chinchilla dust is fine to use. I use that or whatever other chinchilla sand I can find, the degus are not fussy!!!
Good luck getting the degus!

I use either the Charlie Chinchilla dust, or Hanlou, if you go into Alfreton Taylors Corn Stores ( the pet shop) do their own brand and you get a huge bag for a about a pound!

Just thought I'd update you all...... depending on what transport can be sorted (the rescue is in Surrey), I will hopefully be adopting 3 degus soon!! Am very excited. They are a neutered male and 2 females - Billy, Sammy and Lotty are their names at the mo. So now I'm shopping for them. A shiny new John Hopewell wheel has come and hopefully the rest will come in a couple of days. Will let everyone know how things go.

Thanks Aimee. Will bear that in mind.... however, the transport shouldn't be too much of a problem as there is someone coming up the country with some other animals already. These particular degus have been in rescue for quite a while, sadly, and Emma (where they are) is especially hoping to get homes as someones brought some more degus in to her recently and she's running out of space. There seems to be a lot of degus in rescues at the moment, sadly. I think sometimes they have a harder job finding homes for them as they're 'different' to other pets. If things don't work out I'll definitely bear that in mind though. Thanks! Am very excited!
