So I got 3 new degus from the humane society about 3 or 4 weeks ago and this morning, I found babies in the cage. Of course Im excited, I was hoping she was pregnant, rather than the bumps in her stomach being cancer. Im not sure how many there are, Ive counted four so far. Its an exciting time, and daddy is busy making the nest really warm for them. I just hope all of them survive! Im going to keep them all for sure, I just need to seperate the father with the males once they are weened. Im not too concerned about her getting pregnant again, if it happens, it happens but Im just excited that my degu family is expanding so nicely. Its a huge difference for Princess after mourning her sisters death for 3 months.

Hopefully the mother won't get pregnant again. It is hard on the females to keep carrying and delivering more babies. The good news is if she doesn't, you will be able to separate the boys with their father and the girls with their mother, then you can put all the females together, Princess included and she won't be alone anymore. If you can get them successfully separate with no breeding going on you'll have a nice two cage Degu community to enjoy.
