How clear were the signs of nesting? Our degus have never had a next box; they sleep on the top shelf of the cage and do nothing with the paper towel shreddings. I know two of my ladies are pregnant but I'm waiting for sure signs of nesting. However, if they've never nested before, is it instinctual to start when "The Time" approaches?
What did your degu mommas and papas do?

My experience was a bit confusing since I thought I had a male who just happened to like to nest that turned out to be a pregnant female. I had a shoe box available for a nest box from the start. I figured my poor little "guy" would be more comfortable with a nice cushiony box to cuddle in. I bought some of the commercial nesting material that looked like cotton ball material. I tore it up and Mocha would arrange it in the box as she liked it. Lets see, I bought her the last week of February and she had the babies the first week in April so that would mean she was nesting for six weeks when she had the babies. Does that help at all?
