Anyone have a ankle biter degu?
Padfoot (of the Marauders) cannot be trusted! During playtime he's been wandering up to my feet and just biting down (not hard, but still!). No idea what set this off, just hoping he stops soon, haha.

WHAAAT?!!
Are you sitting on the floor or walking around . . . or does it matter? Do you see him coming, or is he ambushing you?
There have been some that will bite while being out over the years, but not many. I can probably count on one hand how many have been reported/discussed on here. One, as I recall, was determined to cause real injury and his owner had to keep her shoes one to protect herself. I think the trend ended over time, but it could have been several months. No idea what the causes were.

Just a quick thought.... did he see you accidentally step on Pickett? I'm just wondering if he's connecting the two.

I sit on the floor with them. It's not a surprise since I don't take my eyes off him, haha.
It seems more common when my legs are stretched out rather than crossed. He just kinda eyes my feet for a bit and then goes for it! I've tried meeping when he bites, doesn't seem to be helping at the moment. He just bites the same area, lol. Again, not hard, but it would be great if he would stop!

I don't think he did, Savvy. The Marauders cage is setup so they can't see into the play area when the pups are out. And I think he started before that happened? I have a feeling its because he wanted attention/treats. Or he's mad that I had friends visiting this weekend who have now left (meaning all his extra treats are cut off)!

Do you have socks on when this happens? I haven't seen it in degus, but some of my rats went really ballistic if I had socks on while they were out and about. They'd mostly go for the toes, but socks in general seem to really set them off...

Teemu . . . socks? LOL! You have had some serious characters in your home!! Are you saying that if you removed your socks . . . they left your feet alone?

My mum had a dog who would always nick your gloves when you walked in the door.
Could it be something as simple as he wants you to move your feet out of his way?

Does he look to bite at every opportunity or could he be trying to tell you something? Are your legs in his way when they aren't crossed? Are they cutting off an escape route? Flossie once bit my big toe when my foot was in her way, it was blocking a route in the playpen that they always used to keep swept clear for the quickest route to safety.

Never updated this sorry! Still no idea why he started, but he's mostly stopped. He does nip a bit still if my ankles are crossed such that he can't squeeze underneath my legs. I've gotten better about lifting up my legs if they want to cross the play area in a hurry though, haha

Hah, this is the group that's already trained me to give treats when they touch the playpen fencing in a certain area! I'm a very well trained human, haha

Don't worry. Silly used to randomly bite my toes to tell me my feet were in the way, or as a warning not to kick him if I moved. Blood would gush.

Oh wow Bouncy! Glad he isn't biting as hard as Silly did!
He's now been banned from my sweater during play time--one too many nips to my back!

I would ban him, too! Nipping your back?
