I'd say no, anything that's pellet can swell inside if they eat it. I've just had to switch to fitch as I've had a smelly bale of greenmile. There seems to be a shortage of cardboard and paper at the moment.

Definitely NOT on the pellet stuff. Looking at the second thing which you say you were using . . . that is a pellet as well. It really isn't advised to use it.
Just to reiterate what Savvy said; because of how compressed it is, if degus chew it and then eat it, it swells inside the body from absorbing their natural digestive juices and can be very harmful, even deadly, to them.
Why do you like to use that, Love?

OH MY . . . now I need to remember the names of substrates, LOL! Fitch, I believe is one name. Care Fresh is another. Savvy . . . what is the name of the bamboo stuff . . . if that is what you are using? Or . . . am I thinking of Loo roll, ROFL!
I'm sure there are more, and I am also certain that the names will be supplied here for you.

The bamboo is indeed the loo roll, lol. Greenmile and finacard are essentially shredded cardboard, carefresh is fine, but expensive. I switched to fitch as I had a really smelly bale of greenmile and I'm not a fan if carefresh. Fitch is cheaper, and softer, but if you need something quickly, carefresh is sold in pets at home, whereas greenmile, finacard and fitch are all online.
Greenmile and finacard you can get from ratrations, fitch I got from the supplier, just Google fitch bedding.
Hope this helps.
