It's time to clean out my motley crew again, and my local tack shop delivers! I still get the odd moth in their bedding, although nothing like the infestation a few years ago from contaminated feed. So........I went to the website to order my usual bedmax, and noticed they now stock Bliss, which is chopped rape straw. Ordinarily, I wouldn't look, but they do additional versions - one with citronella, and one with eucalyptus (both as essential oils)! Think I may mix some of the citronella in with the bedmax I'll need more than the 20kg bale of bedmax anyway! Any thoughts?

Trying to find out how much rapeseed plant is toxic to good. I know it's part of the cabbage family.....
Seems to be ok for guinea pigs, degupedia gives a description, but no indication one way or the other!

Have you thought about asking your vet? He might know.

Is Citronella safe for degus? I know it isn't for dogs or cats . . . but not sure about degus. I've even greater doubts about the eucalyptus oil . . . I think it would be a potential issue for their lungs.

Foiled! John's concern is the essential oils, which could irritate

I would probably give the unflavoured rape straw a miss too because it is probably covered in pesticides, and potentially more tempting to nibble than other bedding. I suppose the hemp and flax bedding products will also have pesticides but I think they have thicker stems so lower percentage by volume of product.
