My sister is systematic when it comes to flower deliveries for birthdays, and I always give the roses to the boys. They gobble them up!
The latest bunch include chrysanthemum and Carnation. Any ideas if these are edible?

I wouldn't do chrysanthemum. Carnation is probably okay, if they haven't been dyed or anything. I know the chipmunks used to eat the petals off all of my pinks (dianthus) which are closely related.
Okay, so looking it up, people eat carnations, candied, pickled, etc.
But it looks like they're mildly toxic to dogs and cats, who get gastrointestinal upset and dermatitis. So, the question is, are degus more like dogs and cats, or American chipmunks?

I wouldn't, they are likely to have been sprayed and possibly kept in water with chemicals in, even if you don't use the sachet.

Ok, thanks. I'll give them the roses as normal, but skip the others.
I didn't realise people ate carnations (unless you count condensed milk from a tin)! Chinese use chrysanthemum petals to make tea - it's rather sweet without adding sugar.
