I'm really not sure if I'm doing the right thing here... the URI my girls had somehow reached the boys.... Well.. one of the boys. Luckily Buddy who is sneezing loves the taste of Septrin and is taking his medication happily. The other boy, Banshee... Well last time I had to medicate him, it took 3 hours and several bites for one dose. (the girls I can just grab and give) - he isn't displaying symptoms yet. I'm hoping it stays that way.
So for now I've separated the boys until I can find a good way to medicate Banshee. How long would be too long to keep them apart? He's distressed after only an hour.
For medicating him I've tried:
Babyfood (pea, carrot, sweet potato, parsnip) no flavour is nice to him.
Hazelnut and walnuts
Tried leaving it to dry on a crock.
left to dry on oats

I have the same problem with Dixie, he can sniff out a med from 50 paces.
I've found nothing to mix them in, so I have to confine him in a limited space, don a protective shield (I use an old wrist brace stuffed with an old t-shirt) and wait for him to attack the syringe, then squirt.

I once managed to get meds in by holding them (think it was the one time I hadn't been given branded metacam and Spidey). Having got him, I gave him a hazelnut in a shell, which he promptly took in his jaws. I took the syringe and squirted into his mouth behind the hazelnut, leaning him backwards slightly so he had to swallow.

I'll try giving him a treat and sneaking the med in behind hmm, he gets quite enaged in trying to take the treat through the bars

That was a fast no, he can smell it a mile away.
The stuff they give smells like bananas - buddie and Choca quite like it, the others I have to grab and force feed quickly, with a cuddle and a treat afterward.

So yeah seems like the problem is he hates anything wet. He runs like hell when he sniffs any babyfood or peanut butter, anything like this...

Have you considered asked the vet for a different medication brand without the banana?

Yeah that was my thought this morning, not sure if it'll be better or worse given how much he hates other stuff.
Small victory tho, I scooped the insides of a crock out and put some of the meds inside the crock shell - and he was wise to it, until I left it to try for 24 hours.
