Hi everyone. You might remember that our degus had 5 babies a couple of months ago -- we found a wonderful home for two and have decided to keep the other three.
We have a very large cage and it's almost impossible to get the babies out for cleaning, etc. They are still very wild and we really want to get them hand tamed, so we're thinking about setting up a smaller, temporary cage just for the babies. It would be a 20 gal. aquarium with a topper and a wheel. It's our thought that we can get our hands closer to them for treats, etc. if they are in a smaller cage.
Ideally this would only be for a couple of weeks, until we can get them used to us. Here's my question though, do you think we would have problems re-introducing them to the big cage later? Two of the babies are boys and we would have them neutered before we put them back in with the others.
As always, your thoughts would be MUCH appreciated!! Thank you,
Sarah

If you need to get the males neutered (great that you are by the way) then you will need to do re-introductions after this anyway so there is no harm in seperating them now and then following the introduction technique described on the website once they have recovered from surgery.
