Just a bit of a reminder to me. Thea is turning 15 this march. The 14. My little girl is getting old

Sweet. It's a lot of years to spend with a pet. Is she your oldest? Have you had her since birth?

Oh wow, it's she the oldest chinchilla you've had?
It's amazing how long they can live for, apparently the oldest chinchilla recorded was something like 28 years old! It's hard to imagine potentially having a small furry for most my adult life considering the usual lifespans for most of the common ones.

Life span is one reason why I have never pushed for a parrot. I LOVE parrots, but I couldn't get one now, or even 20 years ago, knowing that that bird could outlive me by decades. It's a huge responsibility. Who would take it? Could they afford it? Could I afford to help them afford it? Would they even want it? So . . . no parrots for me, I'm afraid. I'll just have to love them from afar, and hope they stay in the wild.

deguconvert that's what I love about cockatiels, they can have good, long lifespans (our Sooty is 23.5) but not overwhelmingly long. One of my brothers is insistent that he's going to get two macaws but that means he could have them until he's 80+ O.O

I think one of the things that really deterred me, was learning what strong bonds they form with their people. It really destroys them if their people suddenly decide they don't want them, or they die and the bird has to go somewhere else. It's a very big change that is very hard on them. It's that way with many, many animals.

Yes, she's my oldest and yes, I've had her since birth http://instagram.com/p/B7G3XCrgi2O The one that comes closest to her turned 10 this august. My first dies when he was 12 or 13. That was Theas dad. I get the one with parrots. Same with turtles/tortoise. They can get so, so old. Funny thing is the bigger spiders can get pretty old too where the females can get to 20+
