has anyone trained there degus to come to a cliker or bell or whistle . Apparently if whenever you give them there food if you ring a bell or whistle or clicker they will get to now when you make that sound food is on its way. This is good because if one esscapes then you cane make the sound the think meens food and they will come and look for the food which would be in your hand so then you can catch them.
i have used this metod with my guinnea pigs and it works very well
has any one used it with degus?

yes, i have trained both of my guys to expect a treat when i make a kissing noise. they also know that treats are a nighttime event, this way when i feed them in the mornings they are more likely to eat the food rather than wait for a treat. they are so like children--wanting dessert before dinner! it didn't take them long to learn this either, i think two or three days tops and now they know when i open the cage door in the morning it's for greetings and food. such clever little critters ;D

Yes Fiona, I taught Mocha to come for a treat when I ring a bell for exactly the same reason. I was hoping it would work if she made a great escape. Never had to test it but both girls come for a treat when I ring the bell.

I'm in the process of teaching mine to come to a kissing sound, and it works about 25% of the time right now. The other times they look at me as if they know they should be doing something, but just cant remember what... but then they forget what they were thinking and keep running around having fun
