I know! I wish you could have seen my face when he said it!
I am taking him in at 9am in the morning. He said he'd book me in at the practice over the road, then when I asked "how is that vet with Degus" he changed his mind so I am now going to the practice further away. Sadly my two regular vets are away so hopefully this one is ok.
He is asleep but I can try later, what am i trying to do? Sorry for being thick haha. Xx

DC means have a little feel of the swelling, just to get an idea if it is fluid or firm and if it is causing him pain. Since you have an appointment for first thing in the morning I would probably leave it alone and let the vet figure it out. As the vet already mentioned, I think they might need to properly work out if he has a hernia now, that is the main concern. Don't let them fob you off with it being a different vet.

Ahhh ok. I prodded it earlier and he didn't show it hurt. I honestly couldn't tell if it was solid or not. I'll post a pic tomorrow and let you know what vet says. I also already have an appt on fri with a good vet for another post op check up. Just didn't want to leave it that long without someone looking. Xx

imgur.com/gallery/ZT8DCdRimgur.com/gallery/hUDtQHdSo, vet says she does not think it is a hernia but as it is redder today and feels a bit warm he is back on antibiotics and staying on pain meds. Changed tomorrows appointment to next wednesday because she said it would be too soon to tell if anti bs were making a difference. He is presently very fluffy with squinty eyes in his cage.*sigh* snuggle safe and syringes here we go again. Xx

The vet you saw, is the same as the vet you were going to see tomorrow?
My concern is, what if it is a pocket of infection. If it is encapsulated (it looks to be in the area that one of the testes was located, and I'm wondering if tissue has healed around a problem area which is now infected), it has to be opened and emptied out, and antibiotics will not help it because the encapsulated condition closes it off from the blood supply that is distributing the antibiotic.

No this was a different vet. They did say if the antibiotics were making no difference in a couple of days to let them know because they may need to think about a scan and going back in to see what is going on.
My poor guy. Do you think if it doesn't look any less red or swollen by saturday then pop him back over?

That is definitely the question to try to answer. And while you don't want to move too quickly in several kinds of situations, you also don't want to move too slowly. Infection can so quickly overwhelm a small animal.
I would think that if there is no improvement, than yes . . . take him back over. Even if it is just in a static state, as in not worse, but not better . . . take him back in. My thought in that case would be that the antibiotics are preventing it from spreading, but are not able to stop it in it's tracks/obliterate it. IF you see the red increasing, take him in sooner and don't apologize for it. You could even do what hospitals do and use a marker to outline where the red is now so you can tell if it is spreading.

Ok ladies, got it. I am more than happy to ask for the other vet to look tomorrow again even just as a second opinion if I think he isn't doing well. Xx

Never be afraid to ask for a second opinion, better safe than sorry.

Wait, I think I spy blood! Right I'm going to have to deal bites and get a proper look. I reckon I'll be taking him back today if that brief glimpse is anything to go by. I even thought it was looking better last night! Xx

Have you a pyrex bowl or glass jar that you could put him in and look from below, if it would save a lot of stress?

I put him in his carry cage for a few minutes first. He is ok being handled from there. My poor guy. Here is what it looks like imgur.com/gallery/BvczyQwVet has said it is more than likely they will flush it out on Monday. He is still eating and drinking well and very active. They said the abscess has likely burst, bathe it, keep medicating and keep encouraging food and water. Xx

I have bathed it but nine of the dark scab looking bit has come off, just the smelly discharge stuff. I have to say, he seems pretty happy? Eaten loads and jumping around as normal. I wonder if it is a relief for him? I would expect him to feel rubbish with an infection? And he certainly has an infection (he truly smells like the worst kind of feet).

I would think it's a good thing to leave the scab. Did it burst by itself? Did you speak to the vet on the phone or have you been in? If it burst by itself you might be able to have a very tentative and careful squeeze to see if you can get any more pus out.
It's good that he seems OK in himself. Hopefully the antibiotics are keeping it localised and stopping it affecting his whole system. Do watch out for any lethargy tomorrow.

Hey, just on the phone. Yeah I think it must have, unless he's scratched it or banged it at some point?
Yeah I'll bathe it again later and see if more comes out with a gentle squish...scented candles at the ready haha.
I'll keep my beady eye on him. Xx
