o.k., I haven't asked anything for a while, but I'll update you. Last month, we discovered that 1 of our "sisters" was a brother. After hearing the male mating chirp several times before finding out what it was, and finding out that we had a brother, we are pretty sure we are probably going to be welcoming at least 1 litter of little ones. Lily is the one sister that is tired a lot, so we think she may be a mommy, although you can't tell yet, because it's too early. The question that I have is when they sleep, all cuddled up together, almost always, Willy and Mily are lying on top of Lily, across her belly. Is this a sign that they know there are babies in there, or is this just a coincidence that they are lying across the one that we suspect may be pregnant? Thanks! Laurie

Hi Laurie
I'm in the exact same situation as you -- one of our girls turned out to be a boy. We should know within a week or two whether Blossom is pregnant. But our degus have always slept in the position you describe, one lying over the top of the other, even when they were babies. I think it may be a natural degu sleeping position -- so cute!

Thank you Sarah. I don't know if you're excited or not about your possible family. I was upset at first, but now I check almost every day for changes in my girls! Your right, they do look cute sleeping like that. They are so close to each other. Many human families don't have what they do! I had to laugh when my mom thought Mily and Willie were hurting Lily while sleeping like that. I knew they weren't hurting her, I just never noticed that the same little girl was on the bottom every time. Laurie

Laurie -- we are upset and excited! It would be so wonderful to have some degu babies, but we wouldn't be able to keep them all and would worry about finding good homes. Also, we're worried about any inbreeding problems because B & B are most likely from the same litter.
We check every day for signs too -- if my numbers are right she could deliver this weekend. I guess it's pretty hard to tell in advance, although Blossom does look extremely round.
Good luck, and let me know what happens!
Sarah
