For the past few days, my degus have been making their noises, running back and forth in the cage, and it seems like the want to kill each other. But my one female, isn't getting involved at all. She actually trys to get out of the way. So i'm wondering if the males are deciding whos going to be the father or if they are just deciding whos going to control the cage?? I'm really scared that they're going to hurt each other. I've been thinking of seperating them but i don't know if that would do more damage then good. Please help, i need advice. Thanks.

I cant believe you have more than one male living with a female. Of course they are fighting. They will fight to the death for the right to that female. You need to either get both males neutered, or re-home one of the 3 asap.
sorry to be blunt, but thats the problem and they WILL fight to the death if left as they are.

Meg i know that it's kind of dumb, but could i just seperate them, put two of them in one cage and the other two in the other?? I really don't want to rehome them. I've had them since they were young enough to leave their mother.

If your degus are brothers and sisters from the same family (which is the impression I get from your last post) you really need to separate the males from the females ASAP! Keeping related degus separated (by gender) is the only responsible thing to do. It is currently breeding season which may explain why the boys are fighting. I always separate my babies when they are six weeks old to prevent any inbred litters. Inbred babies can be born with all sorts of problems such as blindness due to early onset of cataracts and increased chance of sudden death due to genetic defects.
On the other hand, if you have non-related degus and are planning to breed them, you should still separate the males or (as Meg has said) they will fight to the death to have the right to mate.

I put two of them in one cage and the other two in another. Since i've done that they've all settled down. I kind of figured it was breeding season because they were fine the last couple of weeks. I will keep them the way they are, i really don't want to do that, but i have to otherwise they will kill each other. In january, i will be getting two of my boys neutered. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, could you please just clarify! You say 2 in 1 cage & 2 in another....is this the males and females seperated? It's a bit hard from your post to know what you have got. Also please make sure that the cages are in different rooms, otherwise the males will still fight for now as they can still smell the girls.
Good luck.
