So here's an update on the boys. They hate each other and that's all there is to it. i move the cage as far from the girls as I could and still they fought and Puck pulled Pippins tail off!! what a mess that was. Took him out made sure the wound was clean. I don't think there is any way for me to put them back together or even split the cage. They are always after each other when they are that close and that's how things get bitten. They seem okay not being together. I try and play with each of them a little more to keep them occupied, so I think they will be fine. Other than that, I can't think of anything else to do for them, unless I get rid of them together and hope they don't kill each other. But they are a part of my family now and that would be sad.

you could consider getting both of them neutered by a vet. this would reduce the desire in either of them to wish to be dominant, and would actually make it possible, if you wished, for them to join the girls in one big group.
I would get the tail checked by a vet anyway, I had a degu without a tail, he was never fussed as far as we could tell (although a later xray on his friend revealed several bite marks so maybe he was jealous!) but the dead end of the tail can progress up the tail to the body, so it is worth having it looked at to be safe.
good luck anyway, pm me if you need more advice!

I'm sorry those boys just won't get along. How frustrating for you. Meg's suggestion is a good one.

thanks again for the advice here. That could be something I may have to look into.
