They are 2 sisters and we've had them for 7 months. All of a sudden, starting yesterday, they've started fighting viciously over nothing. They have a huge cage, their own food bowls and lots of attention. We were wondering if they could be going into heat -- do girl degus do that?
They have already been in several fights today and one had to be removed from the cage for a time out.
Any thoughts?
Update: Last night when I got home from work my husband said that they had several more fights -- he got out their old aquarium and separated them several times, but that freaked them out too -- they were both squealing and banging around their cage wildly. There were no fights all night and we saw them cuddling together later. So strange and upsetting!

I'm sorry for your troubles Sarah. Can't imagine why after 7mo they have begun fighting - especially since they have adequate space, food etc. My Degu Girls are a mother/daughter combo. They have never fought. Oh, they squabble over food once in a while and will push each other out of the way to get to something they want but no knock down, drag out fights. It would be very upsetting.
Anyone else?

I just adopted two boys from a lady and she also had them seperated because they had started fighting for no particular reason. I don't know how old they are but I know they are friendly and love a good rub, they just don't like each other anymore.
Any one with any advice would be a great help.
