He could be grinding them in annoyance, a sort of 'leave me alone or else.'

Good point, Savvy. He is quite pissed off. He seems somewhat appeased by seeds though!

Good point, Savvy. He is quite pissed off. He seems somewhat appeased by seeds though! As long as he doesn't put them in his ears, lol.

Pain is pain and really can't be compared. I remember a lot of crying, LOL . . . but I have to dig deep to pull those memories out. Even though I was sick a lot a child, those illnesses are not the things that stand out for me from my childhood. I hope you are free from infections, or have a great reduction these days?
I'm really glad to hear that the weight loss looks to be slowing down and potentially reversing now. The fact that he is eating some poos and some seeds is a relief! Those are some good indications. WHEW!! How is his head tilt today?

Haha, oh jeez Savvy, I wouldn't put that behind him! So true, DC! I'm glad those aren't the most prominent memories Yep, as soon as a stopped swimming, all the infections stopped too! I'm thrilled with it too! And I've seen him drink more water his head tilt is still very much present. But hes moving around more than yesterday, and has tried the wheel again (spoiler alert, did not go well).

Poor babe, hes trying so hard! I felt bad, but it was kinda hard to hold back the laugh when he ran into that.
That's really good to hear from someone who isnt watching him all the time! Makes me feel like he really is doing better!

For sure!
Also, hes holding steady around 158g, so I'm gonna hold off on syringe feeding.

How many days of meds do you have for him?

10-14 is what they said to give him. But they gave me enough for much much longer.

That's good . . . then if you are still seeing signs you can still give it.

Definitely. It's always nice to have extra. Especially if a certain stubborn goo moves at the last minute, causing a dose of meds to go to waste... So weight is still at 158. Holding steady for two days now.

Haha, they're such butts some times!
I've been telling people at work about this experience, and everyone is comparing it to giving meds to upset baby. Fair comparison? I've never had to do that!

Yeah, it compares, except that babies can't bite quite as effectively as a degu, and if we burritoed a baby (or toddler) like we do degus to get the medicine in, people would likely get really mad about it. The struggle is just as frustrating though, because for both we are trying to help them get better, but they don't like, understand, or welcome what is needed. So much fun, LOL!

Oh man, that sounds super fun. I'm imagining human babies with the speed and mobility of degus right now...terrifying!
So Pickett is approx the same weight (and everything else) as the last two days. This is the fourth dose of oral antibiotics. I know he's eating and drinking, but no weight gain that I can tell. Is it smart to still hold off on syringe feeding? I dont want my anxieties about this to hurt him in the long run.

I think . . . since he is holding his weight, it isn't a dire need. Not gaining may have as much to do with the antibiotics . . . both ways. They stopped the loss because they are helping his ears to heal, but may impede the gain because they can mess with the gut bacteria. You could make a tiny amount at the end of each day and offer it, if he takes it, YAY, if not, he will be OK. If you see him losing again, then you might have to force the issue.
