I'm going to be experimenting with introducing the pups to one of my other groups (rescues or Mauraders). We'll see how this goes! But honestly, if I can't make it work, no worries. It would just be nice to have only two groups. Would allow for longer play time, which they all would appreciate. I haven't seen any signs of mourning from the pups, but Fred just passed three days ago. I'm going to be keeping a closer eye on them than normal though, just to make sure. In addition, the vet seems to think that Fred and George's condition (enlarged heart, consolidated lungs) was hereditary. This makes me feel better, since hopefully the pups won't have these issues. Yesterday the whiteboard blocking the pups cage from the play area fell over while the Mauraders were out. They all seemed to be talking nicely to each other. Then Moony and Prongs started a FBOD. So I may start with an intro between pups and rescues. That group is more stable, so who knows. Picture of Newt with his toy carrot Attachments:

I think you have a firm grasp of all that is going on with your degus! You're doing GREAT! I'm anticipating some conflict . . . because these are degus after all . . . but I expect triumph and celebrations in the end. Looking forward to hearing about this adventure in the days ahead, and cheering you on throughout!

Oh, I can't wait to see if Ollie, Tom, and Q are going to have some new buds! Newt looks a little lost next to that carrot Is it one from the tree?

Thanks, DC! I'm definitely expecting conflict (yay degus , but hopefully there will be triumph in the end! I appreciate the encouragement! I really hope so Bouncy! I do think these groups could mesh well. But who knows Haha, he does look confused! I tapped on the ground (sign to come get a treat) and he couldn't decide whether he wanted the carrot or treat more. And yep, it's from the tree. Everyone love loves that tree! One thing I'm a bit worried might trip up intros-- I have no idea who's top goo of the rescues. Maybe they're more of a democracy?

No insta love between Tom and Newt. Newt started chattering angrily immediately.

Did you have them face to face, or cage to cage?

Tom in play area, which is right outside the pups cage. So that probably didn't help.

You can get groups where it's less clear who the boss is, my group were like that, it seemed like Flossie was in charge of organisation and communication but Molly was in charge of safety. Doing an intro might make it abundantly clear!

Haha, glad it's not just my group being weird! I do think the intro will make it much clearer. I did see Tom shoving Q and Ollie away. So maybe hes top goo.

Any suggestions on intros? My current set up doesn't all me to put separate cages together easily. I'd have to move the rescues in to Fred's old cage instead. I'm afraid of how this will work with Ollie being blind. I have wire mesh between those cages any way, so I know tails can't get through, but I'm not sure about noses. Is there a better way to do this? Logistics are not my strong suit at the moment. Sorry for the rambling!

Is it possible to move their cages so they're closer together? Swapping substrate will help too.

I can try to move the cage. Itd be down on the floor, not directly next to the pups, but close. That would be a good enough start? It would cut in to the play area, but it would be less permanent than moving them into Fred's cage. And I wouldn't be as worried about them biting each other.

Yep! That's good. If you can put their cage on a table, even better!

Awesome, I'll try that then. The pups cage is on the ground, so I'll probs pup the rescues on the ground as well. That way everyone will be the same height.

Either hormones or the loss of Fred in the hierarchy are hitting the pups hard tonight. They've gotten into the first real fight. No blood, but they wont stop going at each other. I'm keeping a close eye on them. Hopefully they'll figure out the new hierarchy soon.

If you've moved the cage already, it could also be to do with the proximity of the Tom and the guys?

Totally possible. I did move the cage a few hours ago. But I think they started up a bit before that. I cant believe they're already 7.5 months!

Tell me about it! Sneakygoo looks so big, until you see him next to Spud and Sausage, and I think he's now six months.
