So my degu died on Thursday. And I have no clue why. Anybody have a clue why this happened? He had been sleeping a lot and looking a little confused on Tuesday but he was fine on Wednesday.
Anyways I buried him today (yes I bury pets, even fish xd) Atleast he is with his 2 brothers now.
Back to the point of this thread; any clue why this would happen?

Hi Degusnap, I'm very sorry about your degu, you must be devasted to have lost all three now.
I've reviewed all of your posts on the forum, and it looks like your degu had a fall the day before you told us he looked unwell, which was a couple of days before he died. You also mentioned that he had had catataracts and difficulties eating some time before. Diabetes or a dental issue may have contributed to his death but it seems most likely that he was very unlucky to pick up some kind of internal injury when he fell. I'm not a vet and obviously I didn't see your degu, so this is just what seems to me most likely. We always recommend that you take a degu to the vet immediately when you see any sign of ill health like difficultiy eating, not getting up and looking fluffed up because degus rarely show any signs of ill health unless they are really ill because as prey animals they don't want to show any weakness to potential predators. In this case if the fall and an internal injury was the main issue then I hope it reassures you to know that there is likely very little that a vet could have done for him. I hope that helps you process what happened a little bit, do ask if you have questions.
Rest in peace little degu. (Was he called Snap?)

Oh my gosh. I was the one dropped him, could it have been my fault?

No. I'm sure it was an accident, so please don't blame yourself in that way.

Alright. Also he was called crackle. They were called snap crackle and pop when we adopted them.

I'm sorry for your loss degusnap, don't blame yourself for the fall, they can be squirmy little critters when they want to be, you aren't the first and you won't be the last to lose their grip on one.

I'll try not to blame myself. We didn't 100% know their age, so it might have been a natural cause but I highly doubt it.

I’m sorry for your loss.
I think the thing to take forward here is to get any pet to the vet ASAP if you expect they might possibly be unwell or have had an accident xx
