Hi, so my degu Buffy is about 4/5 years older than my other degus, and they all got along fine at first, but some time ago they started fighting a lot and they would bully buffy and she ended up bleeding all over the cage. Buffy is fine now physically, but they’ve been separated for quite a long time and I’m worried about her being lonely. They’re all in the same cage as it’s a very very big, tall cage so Buffy has her own space but I’m worried about her being depressed. Getting more degus isn’t an option my parents have said, and I’m not sure what to do as when we tried to put the most typically gentle goo in with Buffy even she started picking on her. I just don’t want Buffy getting hurt or being depressed 🙁

What is the age of the other degus then? Are they older than 18 months?

What kind of behaviors do you see in Buffy that look like depression? Is she eating and drinking well? Any signs of diarrhea or constipation? Does she enjoy her cage? What are the dimensions of her portion of the cage? Can she see the other three from her area at all?

What are the dimensions of her portion of the cage? Can she see the other three from her area at all? she spends a lot of time in her bed however she does eat and drink. She doesn't really do very much in terms of running on her wheel or anything, and she can't see the others as she is below them in the cage but she can hear them. No signs of constipation or diarrhea.

Have you had her to a vet recently at all, even just for a wellness checkup?
