we have had our 3 degu females for over a year and we feel like we were seriously mis sold the level of mess we should expect. we are hoovering and sweeping up daily and they still take over the room they are in with scattered food, shavings and crap (scuse my French).
we have an opportunity to rethink their accommodation and so I was wondering what advice there was for keeping them safely with zero mess?

Hello, welcome to the forum! Don't worry, all degu owners go through this frustration, they are very messy creatures aren't they. Here is how I solved the problem, works brilliantly still. Obviously you get a bit of fall out when the doors are opened and you are topping up the hay, but it is nothing compared to what was ending up on the floor! See what you think and good luck: deguworld.proboards.com/thread/21996/project-perspex

You can also go for a self-build that has adequate ventilation, but perspex or glass for the doors.
