I've only had my three degus for a few weeks now, but im already fascinated with their behaviors and with how I can provide them with enrichment. After seeing my degus digging in their hay rack, I filled a 24 pack coke box with hay, sprinkled a few pellets in, and let them loose to dig and burrow. Has anyone else tried this kind of thing? Anyone have other enrichment suggestions for me?

They're great fun to watch aren't they. Foraging is a natural behaviour to encourage.
You could get a cardboard egg box, put a treat in each hole, fill it with hay and close the lid. They will love it! Also cardboard tubes are great for scurrying through and chewing.
Try putting a whole toilet roll or open box of tissues in there, they may need a little encouragement, but they will soon get the idea and run around the cage dragging tissues everywhere!

Have you tried just giving them strips of toilet tissue?

Or tried leaving the roll outside the cage and giving them a length of paper? Mine will pull and have paper winding up or down all layers of the cage. In each cage I have a degu that is messy and one that is the cleaner. Needless to say when I do this the cleaner is very put out and cleans it all up with a big degu attitude. They seem to enjoy themselves and with the Critter Nation Double cage when the games end they are too exhausted to do anything but rest.

Mine love that type of cardboard box too You could try a roasting tin type metal tray, half fill with bathing sand and then sprinkle and hide small treats in it, let them have it for a limited time.

Mine don't get a chance with egg boxes - Spidey just drags the whole thing inside. Mine love a toilet roll too. One member put the roll onto one of the pegs you fix to the bars, then unstuck the end. Hey presto, andrex pups with attitude!
I tend to put empty cardboard food boxes and packaging onto the kitchen floor (their playground). They also have empty carpet tubes joined Aith paper tape laid out around the kitchen, and they currently pass through a cardboard box with paper in front my document shredder!
