Hi ya guys
Been a while since i've been on here. I have a very noisey female Started last night and still at it today, She's 2 years old and lives with her 2 sisters, sadly she's the one with cataracts and we think is blind. She's doing this squeak squeak squeak squeak with her ears right up and then vibrates and chatters. Been watching her and her seems really alert. hope she's just having a girly moment? cheers

she could be afraid. if she's going blind, she's less able to discern what's going on around her, and would be more easily startled/frightened. when my degus are frightened it usually helps to sit by the cage and speak quietly, make "shhh"ing noises and offer treats.

Hello Degumagic, long time no see! But I cant talk, I havent been on here in ages, having just moved house again!
I would agree that your female is probably squeaking as something has startled her. If her eyesight is going, this may well be the reason, but I wouldnt think this would account for the prolonged squeaking. It could be something else. I would take her out onto a flat surface and see how she walks, offer her food etc and keep an eye. if the squeaking stops, dont worry about it, but keep an eye on her for now just to be sure!
all the best
