Anyone know what the different noises are degu make? I have heard warbling at each other (talking I think), teeth charter (no particular reason) eek (guessing get the hell off my wheel) and a very loud squeak (hello I’m here and your not paying attention to me?)

ROFL! Sounds pretty much right. Male degus are also diligent about "masculine hygiene" and are known to proclaim the deed following completion.

We've tried to characterise their noises before, but then they go and surprise us again!
Generally, warbling is good. They are happy, contented little fluffs talking to each other. Teeth chattering can be good or bad, or not necessarily anything at all! One of mine happily sits and chatters his teeth by himself. The loud squeaks are usually annoyance. You'll also get barks. Very repetitive barking (usually in my place about 6am for half an hour) is usually when someone's been frisky with another, even male to male!
Teeth chattering, stamping, wagging tails are usually an indication of excitement or anger.

OMG. Yep. The 6am dawn chorus of "Huzzah, she allowed me to service her! I am the luckiest goo in the world and I must sing about it". At 6am. Bleh.

OH MY GOODNESS, THE BOASTING AND BRAGGING!! Aren't you SO GLAD you don't understand degu . . . even though you certainly know the gist of his song? The "details" that are no doubt expressed, might be more than you can bear!

Body language usually gives you a good indication of what they mean with the noises. I think you might be yet to hear the random repeated squeak which is a bit of a mystery, which sounds similar to but is different to the repeated alarm call and also the growl which isn't mysterious at all when you hear it!

Oh yes! I forgot the growl! It was Squidgy's speciality! He used to growl and stamp his paws on the ground, whilst standing over the Pecan he'd been trying to pick up for the last 10 mins, and staring at me in frustration!
