Hello,
I'm looking for a second hand cage, and most of them seem to be for parrots. Has anyone had degus in them? There's one called Skyline Angel by Rainforest cages locally, would that work? Bar spacing is 20mm with 3mm bars. Size 160cmx92cmx67cm. Thanks!

We started with a parrot cage- the guys loved the height but with hindsight I dont think there was enough width and floor space

If you are getting good size adult degus I think it could work, but probably does have some drawbacks. It depends on how big the main section of it is without the 'turret' and how many degus you want to put in. Working from the floor area of 94x67cm= 6300cm2 if you fitted a full area shelf and some way for them to also use the turret then this would be adequate for 2 degus. If that was possible the long term frustration would be the small access door.

There are some good parrot cages out there. The main disadvantages over rodent cages, however, is the need to add full levels yourself, and the access to the inside for cleaning etc.
Not sure where you are, but I think there are a couple of rodent cages for sale on here.

Thank you for all the replies! That's helpful. I quite like the play area on top where you can let the degus out at a convenient height. I'm in East Sussex.

Ah, Brighton way!
It's nice to think the goos will use this play area, but I wouldn't recommend it. Degus seem to think they're gods, able to fly. They also think they're great climbers and jumpers. I used to have a 2m tall mesh cage. Spidergoo used to climb up the outside to the top, the descend head first using his claws on the mesh to make it look controlled.
One thing I forgot to say - make sure the bar spacing is not more than 1.5cm, or you'll have a troop of houdinis.....
