So my mom went to town to buy new food for the degus and I told her no mollasses, but today I was looking at the bag and it has mollasses in it. I have no other food to feed them currently and she said all of the ones she found had mollasses in them but this one looked like the best option. Any suggestions?

Whereabouts in the world are you mistyanna? Maybe we can help to direct you to a brand that doesn't contain molasses For a short period of time it should be okay as long as you limit how much of the pellets they're being fed and give them plenty of hay and forage to fill them instead - degus are like junkies for sugary products so they probably eat those pellets more than they would with the healtier ones!

deguconvert may have better info for you because they are up north like you, but several of us on the American continent do Sunseed Degu Vita. I think there's another brand sold over here that is ok, but it was harder to find in my research. I can't recall what it is right now. It can be a little extra hard for us to do food sometimes compared to our friends in Europe because degus aren't as common. For instance my local pet store has never heard of them and NEVER has degu specific food. I can only shop there for toys, bedding, and hay. I think almost all of us need to order food from the internet for this reason (I usually get it from Amazon). SOMETIMES you can make a guinea pig food or other small animal food work, but usually they are imbalanced in the long term with their nutrients. We're always looking for new options though, so if you find something that looks good, post it! What brand were they on before this one? What brand did your mom get this time? Sometimes degus can be fussy if you change their food around. If you plan to get them something without molasses it is sometimes a good idea to get it soon and mix the two foods together while you transition.

They used to eat Versele-laga but the store doesn't have that anymore so my mom got some kind of guinea pig pellets. We were talking about ordering food on Amazon from now on

What is the name of the person that brings in the Hansemans food to Canada? She is also in BC and would be nearby resource for forage etc for you. I always made my own mixes, occasionally using some pellet foods. Can't remember what I used now. Have you looked at any Chinchilla pellet foods?

I think versele-laga was the other one I couldn't remember. If your set likes that and you can find it for a decent price online, you might as well stick with it.
DC, the person you're thinking of is wanda with the website Degu's Pantry. I'm not sure if there is something up with her though. I sent a message via her site asking about purchasing in October and I never heard back from her. There's a chance she never responded because my question was a bit off the wall (about a large purchase due to high shipping costs).
mistyanna, Degu's Pantry is worth checking out for sure. It is supposed to be very high quality nutritionally balanced forage. I would totally get it, at least to try, if the shipping wasn't so expensive for me.

Versele Laga Degu Crispy or Pro are OK, sometimes a store will order it in for you if they already have an account with that suppier. There is a Sunseed degu specific food and I think deguconvert used to use a 'Living World' guinea pig product that was molasses free.

No worries about the missed communication wanda! I'll send you an email in a little bit. I'm not currently set up to place an order, but it would probably be good to work on the logistics.

Thank you, Moletteuk! You are exactly right, but I couldn't remember the name,LOL! Just the photo that used to be on the food. I think they have changed their packaging though, so that would be of no help. It was, at that time, molasses free, and free of any other sugars, and the degus enjoyed the bits they got!

I went to the bigger city today and found Sunseed Degu in the pet shop, I was surprised because everywhere else I've been doesn't even know what I'm talking about.
