Sorry for highjacking thus thread. Do any of you lovely people have any recommendations for shredded paper that my boys can make a nest out of? Basil still gets this sticky eye on and off. I switched to aubious and it's better but not gone. Nest changing time soon so want to try switching from hay nest to shredded paper nest. Can they have newspapers ripped up or should it be dust extracted of done sort. Any suggestions appreciated All of my goos love kitchen roll the most. Just buy the super cheap stuff!

I usually buy cheap loo rolls and throw them in whole for their (and my) entertainment for nesting.
Alternatively, I do have some paper bedding from finacard that I decided to try. The bags are a fair size and, depending on the nesting box, you should be able to get 2/3 fills out of a bag.

It'll take a 24 roll pack to fill that nest it's 60cm x 60 cm lol. As long as it's not dusty hopefully it'll help his eye or it's a vet check up next time I go.
Good to know guys and I do love watching them trail it round the whole cage. I put it on the top shelf for entertainment purposes lol

Newspaper is supposed to be safe but it still has quite a smell to it, so I've tended to avoid it for nesting. I think kitchen roll is the lowest dust, cheap toilet roll is pretty effective too, if volume and cost is a factore then you could try Fitch, it's going to be dustier than kitchen roll, but is quite good, it's similar to Carefresh if you have seen that.
You might want to try adapting the nest to make it smaller if size is a problem for filling it, they might prefer it smaller anyway, mine prefer low headroom nest spaces anyway.

I found kitchen roll too thick when they were dragging it around the cage and took up too much space in the nest. Loo roll is designed to disintegrate when wet so I feel safer with it if they eat any.

I use a combination of toilet roll, kitchen roll, strips of jiffy cloth and hay for their bedding. Also I know this is weird, but if I get a hole in any of my socks I tend to chuck them into the nest too... This started when we first got them and I read somewhere about putting an item of clothing in the cage so they get used to our scent.... And the habit just kinda stuck

I tried a sock they just took it to the sand bath like anything new and left it there. Ungrateful gits I walked miles to ruin that sock for them lol

Ha, mine use their sandbath as a treasure trove too... I usually have to empty it as they can no longer fit themselves in for all the junk they put in there
