Hello! since yesterday one or both of my 5 month old degu girls have been spraying pee outside the cage. I cleaned it yesterday as well. Should I be worried or is it just territory marking? Any help would be nice

Probably territory marking, some degus go in for this more than others. Can also be dominance related.
Is there are any change in circumstance or routine or behavior between them?

one of them has been chewing on everything for the past 2 weeks. from the shelves to cage bars. she also digs out the wood shavings under the cage for some reason. They get plenty of exercise as well and the cage has been fitted for them (Liberta cage)

Sounds like dominance issues . . . and maybe a little joy riding with their bits, as they are quite adept at directed weeing.

I use flattened cardboard boxes behind my cages to protect the walls, I find a lot of pee on it. I don't know if it's deliberate spraying, more likely just messy gits. Is there any difference with the sexes when it comes to peeing do you know deguconvert? I know in chins the females are said to spray in aggression, but boys don't (not that I've had any experience with any of mine)

I've got wee everywhere in my kitchen - mostly on the floor, but also some on the wall behind the Liberta. It's all territory marking on the floor, and random spray on the wall. I let them get away with it because I haven't got the heart to stop something so natural, then clean up. Luckily, I used wipe down paint in the kitchen.

You're very welcome! Just remember, there's no such thing as a silly question where degus are concerned - they're a law unto themselves!

I don't think there is much difference between male and female as far as this goes. Not sure what drives is, though territorial marking is clearly part of it. Aggression may be as well. I wonder if for females, it could also be a means of declaring when they are in oestrus? I suppose if an increase in incidents is noted every three weeks, that would indicate that it is indeed related to their cycle . . . at least in part.

My younger females spray all over. Every time I move their cage away from the wall when I clean them, I have to wash the walls and the floor as well. My older ones don't do this.
