I've been watching my new degus and I don't konw if it's normal but really I don't see if they are nesting somewhere or not. I put a bit of paper toilet and little pieces of cartoon to see if they do something... And they distributed one or two things between three hiding places and ignored de rest. Also I see that they took naps during the day, (at night I don't know were they go to sleep, I never catch them!) everywhere for example in the middle of the ramp (yeah blocking the pass to the other) or inside the recipient where is the hay. Is normal? Or they need something more to make a confortable nest?
Thx!

Everything you are describing is perfectly normal they do sleep everywhere, even on the wheel! And they nap frequently throughout the day. They probably do gave a designated bed to spend the nights, but this can change too! In the past two weeks mine gave been sleeping between a house, a hammock and a hanging basket. They are finicky creatures! Just give them lots of options and keep giving them nesting material, it is fun to watch them run around the cage with it if anything!

When I had my first two degus, Einstein was the nest monster. He would not go to bed until it was perfect (learned very quickly to not clean out his bed/nest too late in the evening lol.
Herc on the other hand couldn't care less. When I had them separated for a bit, he made no attempt at nest making and just slept where ever. To each their own.

I also have a lazy nest maker! I have to make his nest for him lol, he sleeps on the ledge until he sees me putting some fresh bedding into his hut, then he clambers in LOL
My other goo loves building his nest and I find all sorts stuffed in there. It's funny to watch him drag lengths of tissue from the bottom level to the top; it getting snagged on the way and him grunting and yanking it 😂

Offer two or three choices, maybe some cardboard boxes, mine love to nest in a space with low headroom, also chuck in a big clump of toilet or kitchen paper, enough that it's hard for them to ignore. It might take them a while to decide, it's pretty funny if they disagree on where the nest should be!

Any container or hammock will have them investigating. They'll either shred or move in! Try putting in a whole toilet roll. It's entertaining to watch their inner andrex puppy, and they may make a more noticable nest.

I think my degu are just laaaaazy. I put paper toilet, cartoon... First week they ignore them, the second week they considered that the herb house was not in the correct place and finally just started today to move around the paper to make a nest... that's great but it's cleaning cage day! I would try not touch their little piece of art, 7 days to make it and counting hahaha

Mine have suddenly started moving one of their wheels all the way across the cage until it bangs on the side. Every single night. Degus are the strangest little guys sometimes, there's not another rodent like them in my opinion. They will always surprise you
