I think I'll probably assess this weekend how S&W are together since I haven't been around much this week thanks to work and then decide where to go might keep be handy to wait until Liam gets back so that I have a second pair of hands if I needed them.

Little brats! Haven't done any intros so far - S & W went into a brief FBOD when I had then out a couple of nights ago, only had tubes at hand to break them up but Sherlock had an injury on his eye and Watson has a couple of bites, one under his chin and the other on his cheek. No signs of infection though and Sherlock's eye seems loads better than it was yesterday as he had it closed when I came downstairs yesterday and half-closed when I had him at the vets - wet mouth again - but it's wide open today. He and Watson have made up though and there appears to be no grudge between them. Sherlock's been in a foul mood lately though, went for me a week ago while I was getting some substrate out his cage to put in Venk's and then gave Liam a warning nip later on that day when all he was doing was interacting with him. He drew the vet's blood but it wasn't a bad bite and a couple of times he put his teeth right around my finger but didn't chow down and that was while he wasn't restrained at all. So part of me is wondering if something is wrong with him - he's usually a sweet and gentle little lad who would only ever hurt a brush (or the person holding it ) - he's on antibiotics again as his gums were irritated and bleeding slightly so hopefully it's just the discomfort making him grumpy and this will sort him out or we're going to have to put him under anaesthetic to get a better look in his mouth to try and figure out what's going on. I'm going to switch their bedding from shavings to something slightly less allergenic (probably either finacard or fitch) too incase that's irritating Sherlock's mouth in some way. Anybody know if hemp is hypoallergenic as another alternative?

WOW! Sounds like they keep you on high alert some . . . I was going to say some days, but things sound like they can go by the hour as well. I really hope Sherlock is greatly benefitted from the antibiotics, and that he is back to his sweet self soon! In the meantime, maybe some garden gloves would be good to keep on hand?

In all honesty I'm more upset that they made me spill my cup of tea in the panic of breaking them up

They're still being balls off pure fury one minute and sweet and cuddly with each other the next... Can degus be bipolar? No more FBODs from what I've seen but they might be starting to listen to me when I tell them enough, then again that might be wishful thinking Venk went into pure brat mode yesterday, switched things up by letting the other two out first as I was wondering whether seeing Venk out his cage was riling them up and causing them to fight when they were out. So I had them out and they were still doing a lot of unhappy body language - low to free floor, Sherlock following Watson's every move, tail-wagging and Watson constantly peeing on Sherlock - no boxing this time but they had it out in their cage earlier on in the day. Meanwhile Venk realised he could use his head to lift up the ladder in his cage and drop it, which meant it made a clanging noise both as it hit the wheel and the floor so he started protesting as loudly as possible that it's not fair Then when I swapped them over, Watson sat at the doors the entire time chewing the bars as he didn't think it was fair that Venk was out and they weren't - for the sake of my sanity I think they need to get together sooner rather than later

Attempted my first face to face today with Watson and Venk and it went straight to FBOD on Watson's side - no signs of aggression from Venk as he was chirping and warbling away at him as he approached.
He's very shaken up by the whole ordeal but I don't think he's been injured. I'm feeling so badly for him the past few days as he's been so vocal and just softly wheeks away to himself as he just sits there and when he's eating too. I think he's definitely starting to miss degu company and it's breaking my heart to see him this way.

what a job that would be - chief degu condom putter-onner He seems in a better mood today, Liam did not like my slightly-joking idea of getting a few pups and making it our original group of four once again... Maybe if I told him he could name them Egon, Raymond and Winston he'd be down with it

Those names sound like chefs to me, but I'm guessing that isn't the right reference!

Poor lad, he's still chirping and warbling away at them and all it seems to do is aggravate them into fighting with each other. I can just hear "Somebody to love" playing in the background! It seems the key is that he's much happier outside the cage so maybe I'm going to have to do a few boredom breakers with him while I'm at work! He's had about 3 hours out tonight but that's only because Liam let him out while I was still at work and then I've had him out since I got back at half 8 (including eating my tea with him). Don't think my back can take doing this every night though

I always wondered what the Venkman reference was, I can't even claim I'm not old enough, I just have a terrible memory for films and names!
Alice came to see me just as my bum was going numb again last night. Are you using a big cushion or maybe a low camp chair would be comfortable?

I've got enough padding on my arse to not need a cushion it's not too bad really, the playpen is set up with one wall on the radiator so I just lean against that and make sure I move my legs from time to time! I have a nice set-up going on with either my phone for watching things or Liam's laptop set up with steam so that I can play games while I'm sat with them so I'm pretty happy to get shoulder-goo (Venk) or knee-goo (Sherlock) cuddles after work! Watson is so far resisting joining in on the affection bandwagon and would much rather be obsessed with Venk. I took a risk and heightened Venk's cage and pushed them as close together as they can possibly go (about 1cm apart). It somehow seems to have improved the aggression on Watson's end to some degree for the time-being. There was a little posturing between S&W when Venk warbled at Watson but no full-on fight broke out for a change.
