I can't recommend tic tac wheels highly enough I think most of the other members would agree too. You need to buy 12 inches in diameter as a bare minimum, but bigger is always better!

My tic tac wheel came through today. Anyone got a pic of how to attach the thing to a wire cage. I have no idea which bits go inside or outside the cage, blonde moment xxx

Long metal bars go inside the cage, large metal discs go outside the cage, as do the wing nuts. Well this is how mine is set up. Depending on where you are putting it in your cage, you may need a hand to hold it in place while attaching it to the bars.

I got the 16" one, you can literally just hear their little pitter patter of paws! Only downside is with its size and force one misstimed jump into a moving wheel threw Barry into a nearby ledge! I felt it for him! Xxx

Ouch! I have nightmares about Bumblebee jumping on the top of his, lol.
Wait until you hear their poo rattling around on it too, so funny.

Haha when we got them they were given to us with one of those awful small enclosed plastic ones with the bar in the middle, took a good few laps in that wheel to shake it loose!!
I have the explorer 2 cage with the vertical bars, so I can only really sit it in one position whuch is pretty high! They can jump in it from a wood brudge but how far is it safe for them to fall (just in case) it's about 6inch off cage floor? Xxx

Mine have fallen much further than 6 inches so they should be fine, I put their hay pile nearby for a softer landing.

I was going to say - mine have tumbled a metre or so.......oops! I've got the Explorer too, and have moved the wheel around the whole cage. If you want a little extra stability, you can also use the central wing nut to fix it to the cage. Oh, and yes, it's lovely to hear the pitter patter of goo paws in the wheel. I can now sit in the other room and know which goo is running, just by listening to the paws

My bottom level is about a foot off the floor, they regularly jump from that height. Particularly when we are starting playpen time and they are too impatient for the steps and ramp. They also regularly botch that jump and end up making a fool of themselves, but are no worse for the wear.
Just today we had one jump from about 4 feet up without injury. Our top doors are that high and we sometimes interact with them at that level when we don't want to do the full blown playpen. Today LaBarbara decided to jump off Nico's arms straight to the floor. He didn't think she would do it, then she did! He said she landed squarely and just started running off to explore. Obviously I'm not going to keep encouraging this behavior, but jeeze... sometimes they are just too hardy and adventurous!

Larry is an arm crawler and a big fan of getting the best view of the room, usually whilst clumbsily climbing around my hair, I usually end up doing some weird crouchy bending myself in half walk in the hopes if he falls it won't be as far!! 😂 xxx

Dixie jumped off the vets table once and then scampered off behind her fridge! He was fine.
Didn't someone on here have a degu drop from a mezzanine floor and land on them? Seem to recall the drop was 12ft, or did I dream it?
Edit: I think it may have been Garf.

Yep, it was Garf that took the nose dive! I remember having temporarily disconnected the tube once that went from the bottom cage to the top for the pups' first cage. It had a vertical U bend, so they needed a bit of a run to make it. Both Squidge and Sausage at different times didn't register me working in that area. The tube was 150cm off the floor. They pelted along, straight out of the opening, across the goo barrier for the room, and landed on the carpet in the hallway...... Squidgy is a hypochondriac. Every time he does anything (injuries or not), he plays up to it. He'll run around on three paws if anyone's looking, and goes into death throes if he lands from more than two feet.
