It's possible. Like humans, everyone is different. I had a nephew who became a stroppy teenager at 10, and another where it didn't hit until he got to 21. It could be that he is now a confident twentysomething strutting his stuff.

You could be right bouncy. Would explain the sudden change in behaviour. Hoping that having time alone has made him realise what he did wrong and will make him want to build that bond again... It's horrible seeing him sitting there on his own , with no one to play with

Some degus are definitely late bloomers, and that could be what is happening with Chuckie. However I tend to think that it has more to do with the presence of Patchy. Adding in another degu to any mix often upsets standings. It doesn't necessarily re-arrange them, but it can mess them up for a while. IF there has been any latent yearnings for top position, likely they get fired up with the introduction of another as well. So . . . it's probably all pretty normal stuff you are seeing, but it's hard to watch. If ever there has been a time when having a collar that can put words to the thoughts and sounds of an animal, like the dogs had in the Movie "Up", it during introductions/fighting issues. Then we could all sit in a circle with our collars on and hopefully talk it all out in a single session. LOL!
It's a long process, but it is worth it. You're doing great!

Lol DC I can imagine that conversation!
Hooman: right, now we're all going to live together, so let's talk about how we're going to make things happen!
Goo 1: well, I'm the oldest, so that makes me top goo!
Goo 2: hang on a minute, I'm loads bigger than you. I can't take orders from someone smaller than me!
Goo 3: look, you two are the noobs. I've been here the longest, and I know how things work around here. I'm also a lot smarter than you. I've earned my place at the top!
Hooman: well, technically, I am top goo. I mean, I'm significantly older than all of you, I'm bigger, I have a PhD, and I'm the one who buys all your food and toys and keeps your cages clean!
Goo 1: shut up, slave!..........

ROFL that goos do not recognise PhDs as relevant qualifications. Are you going to tell Ntg, or will I? I suspect she may already know, but I can imagine it smarts a little

deguconvert. That would explain the sudden change in behaviour. It males sense as when our other boys reached teenage stage they started to fight with Chewy and the hierarchy changed. I agree, I think it might of escalated his behaviour as he was showing some more dominant signs before we even had Patchy... But I defiantly agree this could be a course for him lashing out. Do you think it could be jealousy? As Chewy is now giving another Degu attention especially as its his Daddy - do Degus feel jealousy? Cant see why not they feel all other human emotions. Haha ROFL 😂 I would love that, it would defiantly make our lives as pets owners easier. Right that needs to be the next new invention. It sure is but will defiantly be very rewarding at the end... Its hard to see but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel. We will get our trio Degu pile!! Thank you, it's a huge help getting all the advise and feedback... Don't know where I would be without you guys.

Haha... Great picture. I thought the same as emily!, though it was just a pattern. Didn't even notice the edits, proves how bad my observation skills are lol. The definitely shows the life of a Degu perfectly, living the life of luxury.
