Degu: the big boys
Skill: protection of brothers from the camera.
Looked in to see a lovely heap of sleeping goos, with two on their backs. Take a photo and try and get closer for a better angle. Scaredy spots what I'm trying to do, and promptly lays across them, hiding their bellies from the photographic shaming evil!

Excellent! Thanks ntg ! I've seen all the noted thought patterns and problem solving in my lot (Spidey never tried to take something into the cage the same way twice without thinking about what went wrong). Earlier videos in particular (attacking the blanket for 30 seconds, going to a different point of attack, and lining up the dog toy with the ramp first before dragging it up the ramp) say it all! Face it. Planet of the Apes was pure science fiction. Planet of the Degus is the reality!

Oh great I'd never seen the full paper before. I'm pretty sure my degus would have made mincemeat of the perspex barrier, never mind any rake nonsense.

Degu: Sausagegoo
Skill: Recognition of Free Time
Sausagegoo knows when the big boys have gone to bed and I've shut the door. Before I can put ramps in place, or open the door, he is at the door waiting to come out. He gets picked up and put on the floor, rather than using the common ramps. He knows, however, when it's time to run, and when I'm only after a cheeky cuddle, and won't appear for other occasions.

Degu: Snoozygoo Skill: Windows The doors on the bottom level each have a piece of corotherm edged with duck tape placed in it to protect delinquent toes from the jaws of Spidey. Snoozy has figured out that, if he can work a fraction of an edge free, he can pull the window, and does it with extreme regularity! He removes them with greater ease than me. Need to figure out a way of wedging the panels in, because I can't keep getting up all evening to put them back

Degu: Sausage
Skill: Know your enemy
Sausage has worked out Spud doesn't have a left back leg. When the two barge at the bars for maximum seeds, he knows to always stand on Spud's right. If you barge someone on the opposite side to their missing leg, they WILL fall over, leaving you free to acquire all the seeds whilst your brother stands up again. He figured this out on the day Spud came home.
