Sheldon & Jaden are brothers, around 1.5 years old. They're friendly and curious little boys. They're currently here at Burrowed Hearts Animal Rescue (Thorneywood, Nottingham UK) Email me at burrowedheartsrescue@outlook.com if you'd like to be sent an adoption application. I really hope someone sees this & decides to adopt rather than buy from a pet shop. Rescues usually get the sex right - no unexpected babies! You can see they're healthy & tame, & you know what you're getting in terms of personality. If they've been ill, they've been seen by a vet. Can't guarantee the same from a shop or breeder. Rescues only care about finding good homes, not making money or profiting from you or your goo. Rescues aren't broken, or second hand, they just need a home. 99% of the time it was entirely the humans's fault, not theirs, that they ended up in rescue. We need to find homes for all the homeless degus! Please don't allow your degus to breed until there are no more waiting in rescue. Every one bought from a shop or breeder is denying a home to one in rescue. Adopt, don't shop folks Looks like Sheldon & Jaden are happy, healthy, young lads with tons of energy & years of friendship to give. They're past the terrible puberty age & would probably settle in quickly given how calm & confident they look in the video. Honestly seems to me that anyone who adopts them will be lucky to have them. Pity I'm full/so far away or you know I'd be tempted! Great to see a rescue posting on here, has made my day.

You've got great accommodation there burrowedhearts , looks fab. Really hope someone near you sees this. Can you tell us a bit more about your rescue? Is it just degus? How long do they usually take to find homes? Have you been doing it long? What's the one thing you wish people knew before they got their degus? For me, it'd be cage size, but that's the same for all species. Am on a lifetime mission to push for better/bigger cages. Edit : great website btw, also glad to see another vegan here too

For me, it'd be cage size, but that's the same for all species. Am on a lifetime mission to push for better/bigger cages. Edit : great website btw, also glad to see another vegan here too Not just degus, at the min it's mostly rabbits as I rescued a group that had been living mixed-sex so there were 3 pregnant females. It varies depending on which types of animals are in need at the time, generally I rescue rats, gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, degus, guinea pigs, rabbits & occasionally ferrets. Recently had a cat & kittens too as there was a pregnant stray that I took in, but it's usually rodents & rabbits I find that degus take the longest to find homes for, I think it's partly because they're a little harder to house than rats, and partly because most are the same brown colour so don't really stand out to people. Like how it's harder to find homes for red-eyed white rabbits etc. Rats get homed very easily, I think they've become really well-known for being great pets. Been doing it for 3.5 years now. Previously co-ran Notts Nibblers which I founded with another person, but we split into 2 separate rescues just over a year ago. Before that i'd helped out a lot at another local(ish) rescue that wasn't the best of places for animals to be, so I used to take on some of the smaller animals from there to care for and home myself on the rescue's behalf (with their permission). Ended up taking in animals in need from other places too so set up as a new rescue at that point I think the main thing I wish people knew before taking on degus is probably cage size/suitability too
