I was given 3 male degus where I was looking for females for company for my now lone girl. Unfortunately, I have a 4 tier cage which Ive had to separate because of this, and I think they deserve an environment where they can run freely around a large cage as it's not really enough room for 3 having half a cage as a home... I also have found myself not having as much time to spend with them these days. I'm really not sure how old they are, was told they was about 2 years old. One is diabetic (was when I got them), so food and water will need to be carefully monitored. They will come with some toys and accessories and in a basic cage from pets at home, I would suggest not keeping them in this though as its even smaller than the space they are in at the moment in the cage which they are separated in. I can include some food too. If you would like any photos of them I can upload on request.

I'm sorry you are having to re-home your Degu's but very honorable as Degu's do need lots of space as they are very active. Wish I lived closer to you, I would of happily taken care of them for. I am looking for some more Degu's, I did have 5 but after a long distance move I have no choice but to re-home my three girls now only having two just doesn't seem right. Hope you find a home for them soon and sorry I couldn't help out.

fb1928 - I agree with you there. Once you've had such a big colony it must seem so quiet compared to the activity that 5 would create. I'm sure you will find more goo's on an adoption site that would be lucky to have a new home with you. sophialeila - Must be a hard decision to make but at least you are doing what is best for the boys. Its a shame you cant get them a suitable cage as although you cant spend time with them, they would be quite happy in their own little world but in a bigger and better cage. Good luck with your search.

Circumstances have now changed, as my lone girl got sick very quickly (she was nearing 6 years old) and made a very difficult decision to put her to sleep on Saturday I couldn't bare to watch her anymore suffering in pain, she ended up knawing into her tail which was about to drop off because of her biting it, all I can believe or think of that she must of been distressed with what I think was a cancerous tumour, very similar to her friend, pepper, who passed away after an operation was attempted to remove the cancer, which failed anyway, so I let pip be until the cancer naturally took over her body I guess. I didn't want to shorten her life by putting her through an operation, like how what had happened with pepper. She lived an extra 4 months longer, and the tumour was present but very small round about the same time I caught peppers, just shortly after. It got pretty big, then was affecting her pooping, as she'd pass wet ones and sometimes would get stuck RIP to both, pip & pepper. They was surely loved so much. At least now the boys have full run of the large cage, they seem to be happy. If anyone wants to remove this thread now feel free, as they are no longer available

I won't remove this thread, as the others may be interested to hear about Pip. We look forward to hearing of the antics of your boys - don't be a stranger!

I'm so sorry for your loss, Sophialeila. RIP little Pip. Also glad that this now means that you are keeping the boys. May they be healthy and strong, and long lived.
