You're doing a grand job, so don't feel badly. It's only been a couple of weeks, so you're by no means very far into this. Incidentally, Spidey still tries to take (and sometimes gets!) lumps out of Squidgygoo, but everyone on here knows he's psychotic

Spidey will be who he will be! So is he lone or with the rest? Bella is quite the little madam too, she has nipped both of us since having her whilst defending the cage from the 'hoomans', but I don't think she has ever hurt Hermione. She bit Rob quite badly again the other day when he leant over put his hand in the playpen... But that was because he usually does that with a treat so she was obviously quite narked that he came empty handed! She is definitely queen goo and isn't named after Bellatrix Lastrange for nothing!

Spidergoo started as a lone rescue, but got chucked together with another pair at the same place, so came to me as a three. He's adorable, and he has such a funny personality. He certainly doesn't bite me any more!

misscatafer it sounds like you're doing a good job, really! I've been trying for months and months and gave up and ended up getting them male partners. Pinky and Perky just don't like any goo. 😂 So really you've only been doing this a very short while! It can take several years, unfortunately, but it doesn't mean it won't ever happen. I still have hope one day I can make a group of 4, despite the extreme hate for each other lol. I'm sure they'll accept her eventually.

Thank you Emily! I will keep on thinking positive thoughts for them all and try again once they have matured or if I start to see positive interactions from the two... Never know though, we are planning to buy a house on a year off..so might have the room for a third cage to join up and get Boo a friend then. Maybe like Pinky and Perky, they just have too strong a bond to accept another degu.
I love titchy's explanation of the situation, really made me see clearly the stress they have been under since having her and how I need to give them space and time to come to terms with this.

Misscatafer, I have those rat toys from Ikea, and all of my lone goos have loved them I should warn you that certain definitions of love involve disemboweling the toy and wet-humping it on a semi-frequent basis. Pick them up with gloves

I got myself an Ikea rat toy (Spidey sized) waaaaaaay back in 1995. Now, I love my goos, but there's no way they're getting their paws on my rat! Lol

I got my girls an an Ikea toy which they played with for a bit - and then disembowelled. Esme has her own one who she randomly hunts during the night and wakes me up to show me her treasure

Better than live or killed prey! She's an indoor cat so the only "live" prey I get is mutilated flies. Of which there are many at the moment!

Lucky! Ginge is a flat cat too, but he regularly catches cockroaches on the balcony as they fly, and managed a bird once!

Tell me about it! You come into the living room, and there's this carcass on the floor. Oh, and they're not always dead! When I've pointed it out to him, he looks at it walking off, then at me, as if he's saying "what?! Look, I've done my bit. If you want anything else, get on and do it yourself. I'm going to lie in the sun on the balcony."

I have a friend whose cat (now dead) loved to hunt mice. Her home has secret holes that only the mice seem to know and each year they have one or two that take up residence. He would track them down relentlessly and when he finally did get one, my friend would wake up in the middle of the night to the diesel loud purr of the cat right beside her ear, and a half dead mouse faintly moving on her pillow. It got so that she refused to leave the bedroom door open for him at night. THEN they got a dog, so they put a tiny doggy door in the bedroom door so the dog (MUCH smaller than their cat) could come and go as he pleased. However, the dog was terrified of the door, and the cat loved it. Back to night time offerings! Not surprising that she became paranoid of "purring in the night." Her own personal horror. LOL! Though she misses that kitty terribly, the first thing she said after he had died was, "no more bloody pillow presents!! YAY!!"

My colleague came to work one day looking very tired. He'd been kept up all night by his cats. They'd both come back in for the night with presents for mummy and daddy. Unfortunately, their presents were both still alive. What followed was about an hour of two birds flying around in the hallway trying to escape the cats. The cats were trying to recapture the presents, and with each wing flap, the birds spattered blood across the floor, walls, and ceiling. At the sight of this scene, mummy just stood there screaming, so daddy had catch the birds, deal with the injuries/euthanasie them, catch, clean, and remove each cat, calm mummy down, then spend the rest of the night scrubbing said carpet, walls, and ceiling to remove all traces of the massacre, as mummy wouldn't let him go to bed until he finished.

OH NO!! What a disaster! Poor daddy. No wonder he was tired. Makes me tired just reading about it, LOL.

I wish! It's not even my cat, and I'm actually considering getting a friend for him.
