Haha! Yes I was hoping it would obvious where the barrier was from the two arguing goos in mid air. That was before I widened the gap. Boo and Harmione have had two verbal slanging matches which I have seen since widening the gap... It is just tame stuff really and ends within minutes. Bella half heartedly joins in before Harmione shoos her away. I think Harmione may have taken the dominant position in the duo? I have been noticing if more and more over the past few weeks that she has been bossing Bella about and Bella has been submissive to it. Harmione has always been bigger, but Bella was always the more domineering one. Odd!

They can switch positions and sometimes it's not all that clear who is the boss, sometimes it can seem that one is boss of some aspects of life, say food, and the other is boss of something else, like nesting. Odd indeed!

Harmione has also been the more obsessive one of the pair, Particularly over toys or anything new... Which would then make sense why she is now possessive and dominant over their neighbours. They are all in heat now so it has been a squealy squeaky day. Do degus sync up regarding heat like humans do? Can they also sync up with their humans? I've been monitoring the heat periods for a few months now and as crazy as it sounds but the past few months it has been the same time as me.... Coincidence or actually happening?

That is a really interesting question, Misscatafer! I have no idea how to answer it. Twould be interesting if we had a schwack of member with female degus do a six month recording of heats and periods and see what is revealed. How did you figure out when they are each in heat?

It's been much easier to know since having Boo. The girls will become much more short tempered and agitated by Boo's presence. There is a lot more obsession, squealing and shouting going on. They also play with their toys less, choosing to either snuggle together or use the wheel. During play pen time they also have less patience and spend more time trying to find an escape route. Over time I have noticed that Boos temperament will also change and she is also short tempered and does not tolerate fuss. She becomes more worried about the food bowl than usual. I need to observe Boo with Toby for a longer time period to make any notes on changes as they have only been together a few weeks. Now they all go through this together, it lasts about 3 days a month. Does this all sound like normal symptoms of heat?

Yes, LOL! Unless you are talking about my kitty. She is dramatically aware that "something" is supposed to happen during her heat, but not really sure where it is supposed to come from or what "it" looks like. As a result, she purrs and rubs against all kinds of things, living and inanimate, hoping that one will eventually respond in a manner that satisfies whatever it is her body is demanding. One of these days, we will have her spayed!

Sounds normal to me, I see quite an aray of behaviour associated with them being in heat. Mine have never been in sync together and I would think it unlikely they could sync with a human if only for the difference in cycle length.
