One of my degu's has passed away recently leaving me with a solo boy.
I'm looking for 3 to 4 male pups to introduce him to. Ideally I'm looking for pups around 8 weeks old and willing to wait if anyone has a litter that will be ready in the near future.
I'm based in High Wycombe UK, and willing to travel up to 2 hours away.
Thanks for your time,
Fiona

Hi Fiona!
We will all keep an eye and ear out for you for some male pups!
Just a quick check you have the right amount of cages to do introductions with so to avoid disaster and that you know it may take months/be a rocky procedure.
I'd love to see your cage that they'd all be living in! I bet it's lovely for 4-5 degus. 😊

Hi Fiona! I'm sorry to hear about the passing of one of your boys. My condolences to you.
Looking back at your posts, your remaining degu must be about five or more years old? You want the pups for ease of introduction AND to have a young group of degus to continue with when the day comes that your current remaining degu passes?

Yes I'm terribly sorry to hear about the passing of your degu. I'm awfully sorry, I thought I'd included that in my initial response! Horrified to notice I hadn't!!! That's what you get for typing and walking into town.

Thank you both for your condolences and quick responses. I kind of disappeared from here for a few years, as you can tell from the time differences between this post and my previous posts. Over the years I've had 7 degu's, Marco & Nemo, Leo, Peco & Roco, Gizmo & Dynamo, all of them have sadly passed on leaving Dynamo. I adopted Gizmo and Dynamo from Pets at Home a few years ago, I'm not sure how old Dynamo is, I'm guessing around 4 or 5ish. I have a massive cage for them all to live in, it's a John Hopewell 2 story mansion (http://www.johnhopewell.co.uk/default.asp?template=productdetail.page.xml&productId=225). I also have a smaller cage to house the pups in temporarily. Good news is I found an adoption center about an hour away from me that has pups that are currently around 3 weeks old and I can come and collect them the first weekend of June. Fingers crossed for a smooth introduction.

Hi littlesqueek! Glad you managed to find some pups so quickly.
Unfortunately, looking at your cage, it isn't really big enough for 4-5 degus. You mentioned that it's been a long while since you were here, so you might not know that our cage size recommendations have progressed to using total available surface area (horizontal running areas) instead of cage volume - so cages that were previously thought to be big enough no longer are.
For commercial cages, you can convert the aventura or liberta explorer type cages to have 4 full levels to be big enough for four, and add an extension to the top of the cage or underneath to be big enough for 5 degus. The other option commercially is the savic royal suite xl converted to 4 full levels. The final options are to make a diy cage or to find a few cages to add to your existing one.
