Hi, We are looking for 2 or 3 Degus (same sex please! Don't want 20 or 30) we have a cage set up and ready to go, but there seems to be a distinct lack of Degus in our area, (we are in Ilkeston in Derbyshire) I've tried a couple of rescue centres but with no luck. I would rather not get them from a pet shop if possible, I'd like to give some boys or girls a second chance if I could. We are a full house and work from home so there is always someone around to give them lots of attention. We have a 13 year old and a young adult, both of whom have special needs, who are looking forward to helping feed them and watch them play. If anyone has any to rehome or knows where I might find some Degus in need of a new home please let me know. many thanks L

OK . . . ROFL . . . so it's been a long day, and I read this as, "Have you tried Notts Nibblers (My brains interpretation; Yummy snack type food found in the UK that I have never heard of)? They usually have degus in (My brain; IN THE SNACK THERE ARE DEGUS?!?!?!)" Then observe the next line with "RESCUES" in the location.
YUP!! It's be a LONG day, ROFL!!

Hi, yeah that's where I started, she had a pair of boys that we were going to take but before we were able to pick them up she realised one had dental problems and she isn't happy to rehome in that condition, then she got a pair of girls but she said they are very nervous so again not suitable to rehome yet. So cage been stood waiting for residents for about a month. ☹️

How long ago was this lesley? As they posted on their facebook page that they have 3 groups looking for homes less than a month ago.
You can also see if there is anything on the degu rehoming group UK on facebook. I recently used it to get two new boys but I would use a rescue centre where possible.

Hi, it was last week when I was in contact with Notts nibblers, she was letting a pair go the day we first visited, and she had a timid pair as well as the ones we looked at as I mentioned previusly so I think a month ago that was the situation but not now, I think I'll get back in touch and see if she feels the timid ones are looking any less timid and any nearer being rehomed. I don't do Facebook! Thanks for all your help so far, much appreciated. Lesley

Hi Lesley, I got my girls from Degu Heaven Rescue - they are in Leicester. Not sure how far that is from you but they had a lot of degus looking for homes when I was there. Their email is deguheavenrescue@outlook.com if it's potentially close enough

Keep in touch with Flo at Notts Nibblers. The situation changes all the time. She took loads in last year as part of an emergency rescue, and at lease six females were on pregnancy watch! I took the last two pups, six months after the chaos. When she does hold goos back from adoption, it's with the best intentions - unfortunately, people do give them up if there are expensive health issues!

Hi just wanted to share the good news! Now the proud parents of two girls, Emma and Coleen, adopted from pets at home, they had been in the shop for 6 months after someone gave them up after having them for a year, so nice to be able to give them a second chance. Coleen a bit more confident than Emma, within a day Coleen out on your hand for food. Emma very noisey seems to have a lot of opinions on everything from, going to sleep, to Coleen out of the cage to tv and radio noise. We gave them some dried herb meadow mix last night and Emma went crazy like she was high! I've tried them on fresh broccoli and mint but they are total uninterested. I'm going to check out your info pages to see what leaves and flowers I can find in the garden that might tempt them. 😀

Yay! Glad to see your update. Now we just need pics! Always pics! Just so you know, we see MANY degus on here that P@H have mis-sexed, it's always worth checking for yourself. If you're not confidant you can take pics & post on here & we'll help identify the sex if you need it. If you can't pick them up, you can use a glass jar or dish & take 'photos from underneath. It's difficult to tell boys from girls as there are no exterior differences, except a tiny difference in distance between the cone & anus.

Congratulations on finding and bringing home the two girls!! Hopefully they really are both girls, but it is best to check and see as Randomname recommends. Have a look here, deguworld.proboards.com/thread/13070/degus . This will help you know how to tell the differences.
