How big is the cage your degu has?

If this is your cage, it looks pretty small, do you put the wheel and the bed in the cage all the time? or when do you choose when he sleeps and such? You should also think about getting him a friend to.

i agree, the cage is really really small judging from the pictures, and he would be a lot happier with a roommate :/

As long as you are in the process of getting Fuzzy a new cage, the smaller cage will do if you are getting him out twice a day for two hours each time but I wouldn't wait too long to move him into a larger home.
As far as him bonding to you before you get another Degu sadly the bond won't last like you wish it would. It is far, far better mentally and emotionally for Fuzzy to have a cage mate now. In fact you will find it easier to introduce a cage mate while he is still young. The longer you wait the harder it will be for them to adjust to one another.

I have three degus and they are all 'bonded' to me. Yet I also have the profound satisfaction of knowing that when I am not there for them they have each other. What's more, I don't speak 'degu' and so cannot fill my degu's needs as other degus can.
As ra says, intro's will be harder if you leave it til later. If you have a relationship with your degu now, that relationship will not be destroyed by more degus, rather you will get to have a relationship with more than one degu instead.

Hanlou is right - glad she pointed it out - your bond won't be ruined if you get another Degu just different. Each Degu has it it's only individual personality. Interacting with more than one is as much fun as one and you get to see the interpersonal relationship between your Degus. The first time I saw Mocha & Tanzania co-grooming one another I knew I did the right thing keeping one of Mocha's babies as a cage mate for her. They make the sweetest little sounds and are obviously happy. There's nothing like a Degu Pile Up at sleep time either! Even if it's a Pile Up of two!!

if it will get fuzzy some more room to run around faster, you can find cage toppers on ebay that attach to the one you have fuzzy in now. these are great as they are inexpensive and provide a degu with lots of vertical space for climbing, which they love to do!

Could we maybe get a reply from the thread starter? since all these guidance posts are aimed at you, it would be nice for you to at least acknowledge them....
