Well, my little Sweet Niblets seems to be settling in quite well. I have been setting up her play pen in front of her cage every night so she can come out and run back in on her own. She's been running around, sniffing everything, crawling all over me, playing with the boxes I set out, and nibbling on everything from the playpen to my shorts and fingers. Sometimes she heads back in and up to her little hidey house on her own, and sometimes I nudge her back in because she's gotten a bit sassy. Up until Sat. I hadn't attempted to get her out of her cage. For one I hadn't needed to and two I wanted to earn her trust. My dh made her a sweet wheel and wanted to install it Sat. morning. He said "get your rat", which I think is funny, because he spent his morning making her toys for her cage, so you can tell he just hates her, NOT! I figured what the heck, let's see how it goes. I couldn't believe she let me pick her right up! So I've been taking her out once a day, to get her used to being handled, and so far she's doing great. Since she was finally out of the cage and not running all over I got my 8 year old to try and take some photos of me holding her. I wish I could get a good picture of the freckles on her nose! But she's darn cute anyway. Here's the cage with new toys. Remember it's a work in progress as she came with just the cage, her hidey box and one ledge. We've added toys to chew, tile on the wire, a hammock, and a wheel. Still would like to add a few more things to cover the wire and maybe more ledges.
