Okay, I am still learning all about chins. And still wanting one! Our biggest issue is where a new caged animal would live in our house, that is quiet all day and unoccupied at night. So I was wondering, if we had a cage on casters, could we move the cage from a cold quiet bedroom during the day to an unoccupied family room at night?

That sounds like a good idea to me as long as the cage rolls okay. My chin's cage is on wheels, but I wouldn't want to have to move it far because it's so heavy.

I would only be moving the cage around a corner, at least that's my plan.
While I have you here.... (hee hee) one more question. I know they are nocturnal, but does that mean they are up from 8 pm to 6am? Much like a human's sleeping pattern cutting the day into 2 big chunks? Or more like our degus, who sleep on and off? Ours are most awake first thing in the morning and after the girls get home from school until bedtime, and they nap a lot during the day and I sometimes catch them playing at night (hence why their wheel must be confiscated every evening). Again, just thinking of the best home for them in our home.
I've been looking at photos of cages at the Quill and Chin site! Thanks again!

They are mostly nocturnal, not like degus with the up and down cycle all day long. Now, if I'm doing something in his room during the day, Chico will want out, but usually he sleeps most of the day. At night, he's mostly up, although he'll rest some after playing or running on his flying saucer for a while. It sounds like your idea of moving the cage would be fine. Ask all the questions you want. It'll be SO much better for you and the chin with you doing all this research ahead of time.
