Do baby Degu need much more food than adults? We have 2 one and a half month old degus. The person who breed them said to feed them three times a day. But most books say to feed less than this and not to leave food in the cage after 30 mins. Can anyone give me any tips.

My advise is to give them as much food as you can while they are that young! I have raised two litters, and in my experience they need as much nutrition as they can get. All the main info is on our main page so please look up on there for all you need to know on feeding.

I checked the main page, I know what to feed them, but just want to know how much and when. Now I am feeding them three times a day with about a table spoon of pellets and giving them some carrot from time to time. This seems to be enough.

I kept pellets available free-choice when Mocha had her litter. I'd read it was important for the mother and it seemed to serve the babies well once they began to eat the pellets too.
I've read you should only feed grown Degus once a day. I put one scoop equal to 2 Tbsp in their food cup and refill when it's either empty or reduced to mostly crumbs. Neither of my Degu Girls looks too large or fat so I will continue to feed them this way. I refill their hay as it is emptied.

i feed my grown degus the same way. i put about a cup of pellets in, and just let them burn through that before i put more in. it's usually several days to a week before i need to put more pellets in. they tend to feast when i first put some in, then just nibble occasionally until the rest of it is gone.

I alternate between a handful each of yummy stuff (like the new JR Farm Degu food) and then when it's gone they get a handful each of boring pellets. They don't get anymore until it's gone, or just "bitty". If I don't do it like this they'll get picky and not get a balanced diet. (SKP is the craftiest - he just buries everything straight away hoping, I think, to be given more food!) They also have fresh veg (carrots, broccoli etc) which I have to say are fed a bit haphazardly cos I've got a lousy memory. I usually forget whether I can't see any in the cage cos they've eaten it, or whether it's because I gave them some earlier and they've buried it! Seems to work ok like this though, cos there's only a few bits of carrot left when I clean out the cages. I've always fed my degus like this, without sticking to rigid timetables, even when they were young, just making sure really that food is always available in some form or other.

Be careful with the veggies though! Babys can develop a condition called "wettail". It is more or less diarrhoea, due to them not being able to digest the veg properly
